Time: Meet at the Preserve at 9 AM; Excursion ends around 12 PM
Open to: Certified members (we ask that you have paid this year’s dues) and those undergoing certification. Children are welcome with a parent or guardian. Pets are not allowed in the Preserve.
Cost and registration: No cost (except for the optional lunch)
Directions: The Preserve does not have a street address, but it will show up on navigation apps (Apple Maps, Google Maps, etc.).
From I-12 at the Abita Springs/Mandeville Exit (Exit 65, the first exit east of Hwy. 190, Causeway Blvd.) go north on LA Hwy 59 about 5 miles until you get to the town of Abita Springs. At the traffic circle, take the Level St. exit (1/2 around the circle) which will curve left and turn into La. Hwy 435. The Abita
preserve is approximately 4.5 miles from the traffic circle. It is just past 2 closely spaced bridges. You will see signs on the right with golf names, like Par, Birdie, and Eagle. The entrance to the preserve is on the left across from Green Street. If you get to the Abita Springs Golf and Country Club entrance, you
have gone too far.

We will start with a guided walking tour of the Preserve (less than one mile). Then, we will break into groups for more in-depth exploration. You may join one of the study groups or explore on your own. This activity counts for continuing education hours. Consider entering observations in iNaturalist.
Optional lunch: After the excursion, those who want to will have lunch at the Abita Brew Pub, which is less than 10 minutes from the Preserve (https://www.abitabrewpub.com). They have an extensive menu
