Plant Identification Workshop

Location: Allen Acres in Cravens, Louisiana; 5070 Hwy 399; Pitkin, LA 70656
If you want to learn to recognize many of the herbaceous plants, trees, shrubs, vines, graminoids, and ferns, this is the workshop for you. The workshop will include fieldtrips, where you can see the plants in their natural environment as well as labeled specimens in a lab setting. Additional info on plant identification will be presented thru power-point presentations and printed handouts. You will be given BRF’s (Best Recognizing Features) for each plant with lots of emphasis on leaves plus other facts like use, edibility etc. You are encouraged to photograph, take notes, ask questions, and take specimens with you. During the three day workshop, you will be exposed to more than 200 species of herbaceous plants, trees, shrubs, and vines, graminoids, and ferns plus wetland info. 9 AM till 5 pm (fieldtrips, power-point presentations, discussions, questions and answers)
Lunch provided. After hours: moths, fireflys, night sky, spider eyes, night sounds (coyotes, owls, etc.)
Cost for Workshop = $300 (includes three days of intense plant identification and lunch daily) Note, you may register for one or two days at $100 per day
Allen Acres B and B: $80 per room per night (includes Breakfast) (usually $90)
Allen Acres camping: $30 per person per night night (includes Breakfast)
Dinner (supper) $10 per person per meal
