SUMMARY:Planting Louisiana Irises at Pelican Park - Mandeville
DESCRIPTION:The Louisiana Iris Conservation Initiative (LICI) will be holding its fourth annual iris planting volunteer event at Pelican Park Recreation District #1 in St. Tammany parish\, near Mandeville\, La on Saturday\, November 23\, 2024. We’ll work from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM or until all of the irises are planted\, whichever comes first.\nThis volunteer event is open to the public to participate.\n\nPlease bring your own long handled shovel. The site will likely be muddy\, so either wear regular rain boots or old shoes. Bottled water will be supplied. There are park bathrooms nearby to the planting site.\nThe irises will be planted in a rainwater detention area next to the “Gold Complex” parking lot. Stay to the right at the first intersection on the entrance road as you drive past the Castine Center. The “Gold Complex” road is located on the left side of the entrance road about half-way back to the rear of the park. (There is a sign.)\nIts important that everyone that would like to participate send us an email at licisaveirises@gmail.com so that we know how many irises to bring. We’d like to try and plant as many as 400 irises if enough volunteers are coming.\nEach volunteer will be asked to sign a liability waiver at the start of the event.\nAll help will be greatly appreciated!

SUMMARY:Quarterly Meeting: Ask Ally Workshop- Invasive & Aggressive Plant ID and Management - Mandeville
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, January 12th\, 2025\n 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm (Central Time)\n White Pelican Gym\, Court 3 at Pelican Park\, 63350 Pelican Dr\, Mandeville\, LA\, 70448 \n\nPublic Welcome \n\nFirst Quarterly Membership of Wild Ones Pontchartrain Basin and Public Meeting of 2025. Presentation by Ally Harding.  Have a problem plant that you’d like advice on?  Grab as complete a plant as you can from your space\, bringing the root\, stem\, and leaves if possible. Put the plant in a container to help make sure we’re not propagating problem plants!  A tied garbage bag would be great for this. We’ll avoid accidentally distributing seeds and cuttings by doing this.  If you have success dealing with problem plants\, please bring your tips and tricks to help us battle our way back to more native spaces.
