Louisiana Grass Roots Screening & Seed Collection – Moncus Park, Lafayette

Discover the beauty and importance of Louisiana’s native grasses and plants in an environmental programming pop-up designed to connect nature lovers, conservationists, and neighbors alike. In partnership with Acadiana Native Plant Project, we invite you to spend an evening outdoors at Moncus Park, where you’ll learn, explore, and take part in hands-on activities that support our local environment.

Seed Collection at Cajun Prairie | 6:30-7:15 p.m.

  • Step into the park’s Cajun Prairie to experience seed collection firsthand. You’ll have the chance to gather native seeds, learn about their role in supporting wildlife and healthy ecosystems, and understand how these small acts help restore Louisiana’s unique landscape.

Screening of Louisiana Grass Roots under Blakewood Oaks | 7:30-8:15 p.m.

  • Afterwards, enjoy a special screening of Louisiana Grass Roots, a captivating film that explores the vital role native grasses play in our state’s ecology and cultural heritage.

Q&A with Acadiana Native Plant Project | 8:15-8:30 p.m.

  • Stay for a discussion with ANPP experts. Ask questions, share your thoughts, and find out how you can get involved with local conservation efforts.

Whether you’re an experienced naturalist or just curious about Louisiana’s rich plant life, this program is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community, enjoy the outdoors, and take part in meaningful environmental action.
